Forget about all you know about Jedi Academy, try to discover the new features of KOTF as if you are playing a new game. Leave your habits behind. There are many menus and new key combinations which alters the gameplay. Try to learn and use these, you will find out that you can accomplish many missions when you use them.
While playing the levels, dont hurry, try to enjoy. When you play a level over and over again, you will discover many surprises inside. Dont forget to read all the explanations before a new level. If you miss them, just press M to review. While playing some multiplayer maps, you will find out many new features which will surprise you.
If you have a widescreen notebook pc or a TV, you can play KOTF widescreen. In order to do that, just check the new WIDESCREEN option inside the setup menu. The default is 1280*720. If you are not able to have a proper view with it, find out what is compatible with your monitor and type it inside "wide_setup.cfg" "wide_ingamesetup.cfg" files inside the base folder. Then restart the game and select widescreen.
note: if your monitor is not widescreen, you should not select it. Some of the viewable area might go beyond the screen. In that case, press "shift ~" to have the console screen and type quit. Then go to "Start/Knights of the Force/repair/Reset config singleplayer or multiplayer" and the screen resolution problem will be fixed.
You can play kotf in 6 different languages. Select your language from the CD menu before starting the game so the bots will speak in that language, the mods and the levels will use that language. If you change the language from the setup menu (which is after you start the game) that will not be permanent, and will go to default the next time you start the game. The same rule applies for the blood and realistic saber options, if you want them to be permanent, change them from the CD menu. The changes you make inside the game are temporary.
This warning is only for single player games. There is text information for 170 characters in 6 different languages in kotf player menu. The game memorizes the character information while you view, but unfortunately there are some memory issues with Jedi Academy. The source code for single player is closed so it is not possible to change that. So, the game can not memorize text info for 170 characters and when the memory is full, the menu system collapses, the keys wont work and you have to type quit to the console in order to exit.
If this happens frequently, use the patch that I prepared. It just disables the text which fills the memory and makes the game flawlessly. After that, the kotf player menu will look like this. If you run the same patch again, you can return the game back to normal.
There are many borders on the singleplayer side of Jedi Academy which does not allow to be developed. KotF crosses all those borders and becomes a far more exciting game that the fans could expect. Unfortunately, adding models without any idea on what is being done, will harm the very balanced system within the game; which will end up with errors or the game may not work properly. this especially includes mini modes such as saber models or skins.
In order to pull these errors to a minimum, and to prevent the skins and modes (which you personally use) to crash with KotF, the expansion runs on a seperate folder. If you want KotF to run with minimum errors, do not add anything to KotF and do not use the console commands too frequently, in fact, use the new menus. there is everything you need on the menus, and there are many things you could discover in KotF, only if you leave your habits behind.
